Do I need a first look to get these photos?

No. A first look frees up 30 to 60 minutes of daylight for portraits and family photos before the ceremony, which helps in winter when the sun sets before 5 PM, but every frame on this list works without one.

Should I give my photographer a shot list?

Yes, but keep it to names and priorities: the family groupings with everyone's names, any relatives who need extra care, and the one or two moments unique to your wedding. Leave the standard shots to your photographer.

Why I set it up this way in the first place

I'll be blunt: I've watched couples book a weaker photographer purely because of how the money landed that month. Not because they liked the work more. Because vendor A wanted the whole amount in one lump and vendor B let them breathe. Seventeen years in, that still bugs me. Your wedding photos are the one thing left standing after the flowers wilt and the rentals go back — I don't want the payment structure to be the reason you settle.

So there are two ways to spread it out at ConneryFilm, and you pick whichever fits your cash flow.

Route one: pay monthly through Affirm

When you check out, Affirm shows up as an option. You apply right there, they run a quick check, and if you're approved, you pay in monthly installments directly to Affirm. I'm not the lender here — Affirm is — so I can't promise you'll be approved, and I can't quote you a rate, an APR, or a monthly figure. That's between you and them, and it depends on your own approval. Anyone who tells you "as low as X a month" without knowing your situation is guessing.

What I can tell you is what it changes on my end: nothing. Whether you pay Affirm over several months or hand me a card that day, you get identical coverage. Same shooting hours, same second shooter if your package has one, same edit, same turnaround. Being on a plan doesn't move you to some budget tier. There is no budget tier. It's a payment method, not a product.

Route two: deposit now, split the rest with me

Some couples would rather keep it simple and deal directly with me. That's the deposit route. You place a deposit to hold your date — usually 25 to 50 percent — and then we split the remaining balance into scheduled payments that all land before the wedding day. I map the dates out with you when you sign, so nothing sneaks up on you at month eleven.

One thing I say plainly to every couple: the date is not held until the deposit is paid. A verbal "we're pretty sure it's you" holds nothing. I book by date, one wedding per day, and if someone signs and pays for your Saturday first, it's theirs. That's not pressure — it's just how the calendar works, and I'd rather you hear it from me now than lose an October Saturday in Malibu because you waited on the paperwork. Nothing about the plan touches your photos

Most of my couples aren't wealthy. They're two people with real jobs trying to have a beautiful day without draining their savings in a single February. Using Affirm, or splitting a deposit, just lets the money land in a rhythm you can live with. What I'd do if it were my wedding

If I were booking, I'd figure out my real number first — the coverage I actually need, not the padded shot list — then choose the payment route that keeps me comfortable. If I had strong credit and wanted it off my plate, I'd lean Affirm and let it auto-draft. If I'd rather deal with a human and keep it flexible, I'd do the deposit-and-split with the photographer directly. Both are fine. Neither is a compromise. And I'd lock the date early — LA Saturdays from May through October go fast, and no plan helps you if the date's already gone. FAQ

Is Affirm approval guaranteed if I book with you?

No. Affirm makes that call, not me. They run their own check and their terms depend entirely on your approval. I can't promise approval and I can't quote you a rate or a monthly amount. If Affirm doesn't work out, the deposit-and-split route with me is always open.

Does paying monthly cost me more coverage or worse photos?

Not at all. The payment method is completely separate from what you receive. Same hours, same team, same edit, same delivery window. There's no discount for paying in full and no penalty for spreading it out.

Do I still need a deposit if I use Affirm?

If you check out and pay through Affirm, that covers your booking. If you go the split route instead, the deposit is what actually holds your date — the calendar isn't reserved until it's paid.

Are the deposits refundable?

Can I put both photography and video on one plan?
