Violet Cactus Petite
A photographer’s guide to a one-table room, and why that makes it easier to shoot than a ballroom.
What it actually is
The smaller of the two Violet Cactus rooms, a few doors down the same Burbank block: one 24-foot farmhouse table down the middle, greenery overhead and flower walls at either end.
Thirty guests, one table, everybody facing each other. For a shower, a birthday dinner or a workshop it is the friendliest shape a room can have, and for a camera it is a gift: one line of light, one line of faces.
The walls do the decorating. A hedge backdrop, a full flower wall, a peacock chair and a wall of hanging glassware mean the detail shots are already built, before anyone adds a centrepiece.
I photographed and filmed it on August 28, 2026, the same morning as the Studio, so you can see both rooms as they actually are.

The long table
One table, twenty-eight crossback chairs, and a run of flowers down the middle.
Shoot it from the end and the table draws the eye all the way to the back wall. Shoot it from above the flowers and you get the shot every host wants for their invitations next year.
Because everyone is seated together, candid coverage is simple. There is no second room to miss, and no top table to isolate anybody.
The backdrops
A full flower wall, a peacock chair and a ceiling of greenery, all inside thirty feet.
This is where the portraits happen. The flower wall takes direct light beautifully and needs nothing added to it.
Ten minutes at each end of the room covers every guest, which is about as efficient as a small party gets.
If you are planning something here
Three things I would tell you over coffee.
Shoot the table before anyone sits. The room is at its best completely still. Give a photographer fifteen minutes with it and the rest of the day can be entirely candid.
Keep the flower wall for portraits. It is the only spot where you can photograph every guest quickly without moving furniture.
Remember the size. Thirty people is the ceiling, and that is what makes the pictures feel close. Plan the guest list for the room, not the other way around.
