The Enchanted Manor
A photographer’s guide to a storybook estate on a quiet Valley cul-de-sac — and why it saves its best for after dark.
What it actually is
A private estate of stone-and-shingle cottages, lawns and a rock grotto pool at the end of a cul-de-sac in Valley Village, minutes from the 101 and the 405.
It is small by design — events here top out at 100 guests — and that is the point. The whole day happens inside one property: the ceremony on the lawn, drinks by the pool, dinner under the palapas and the fire pit at the end of the night.
I photographed and filmed the estate on the evening of August 26, 2026, starting at six and staying well past dark, so what you see here is how it actually looks in the last of the daylight and once the lights come on.

The storybook front
Arched oak doors, stone walls, a shingled roof and a brick path that curls across the lawn to meet you.
Guests arrive through something that looks lifted out of a fairy tale, and the first frame of the day composes itself. The lawn in front is open and level — a natural place for a small ceremony, with the cottages as the backdrop instead of a rented arch.
Early evening is the time to use it. The trees soften the light across the grass, and the lanterns along the path begin to glow before the sky goes.
The grotto pool
Behind the house is the part people remember: a saltwater pool set into rockwork, with three waterfalls, palms and thatched palapas around its edge.
In daylight it reads as a resort. After sunset it becomes something else — the pool lights up blue, the rock glows, and the trees around it are lit green and violet. That change is the reason I would never photograph a wedding here on daylight alone.
The rocks also give you height, which matters for pictures. A couple standing on the upper stones with the water below them is the frame people will ask about.
The palapa bar and the fire pit
A thatched gazebo bar, dining tables under the palapas and a great old tree, and a sunken fire pit ringed with wicker chairs.
This is where the evening lives. Dinner can sit right beside the pool, the bar is a few steps away, and the fire pit gives the end of the night somewhere to gather that is not the dance floor.
Firelight is the best light on the property after dark — warm, low and kind to faces. I would plan the last portraits of the night around it.
Inside
The rooms are all warm wood — beamed ceilings, arched plank doors, a river-stone fireplace and deep-coloured textiles.
They make a real getting-ready space rather than a hotel room with the curtains shut. The wood throws warm light back into faces, the windows look straight out onto the gardens, and every corner has something in it worth putting in the frame.
In the cottage, a vaulted ceiling with skylights lets daylight in from above, so the rooms hold their light later than you would expect.

If you are getting married here
Three things I would tell you over coffee.
Start late and stay for the dark. The estate is lovely at five and extraordinary at eight. Put the ceremony in the last of the daylight and keep your photographer on until the pool and the trees are lit.
Ask for the lights early. The pool, the waterfalls and the tree lights make the night pictures. Make sure they are switched on before dusk, not after the first dance.
Plan backwards from ten. Events here finish by 10pm, so build the timeline from the end — and give the night portraits their own ten minutes before the send-off.
